The zapato. A mix of a quesadilla and a panini. I got mine with carnitas and this came stuffed! It had some guacamole and cream, cheese and an enormous amount of carnitas. Perfect.

I split this for 2 meals and it was so delicious! Very rich (obviously haha) and filling. I liked the carnitas and the mix of flavors. The avocado inside was fresh and I loved how the cheese was so stringy when I pulled the two halves apart. Magical.

I want to have another one. I need to try their other flavors. Glad I tried this!

One of my go-to lunch spots when I'm working at our SF office. It's the smaller version of Garaje (hence the name 'Garajito') with a pretty straightforward menu and quick service when the line isn't too long.

I usually get the Carne Asada Zapato, which is basically a pressed burrito. Big. Super tender meat. A slightly sweet BBQ-like sauce. So filling I wish I could follow it up with a siesta. Oh well.

    See you again soon, Garajito.

Why 4 stars? Because when a quicker, more convenient version of Garaje is a winner for me.

A couple of colleagues and myself were headed to Garaje for lunch when we walked right past Garajito. We stopped for a moment, called an audible and decided to re-route right to the smaller version of Garaje. They one time I had been to the original mothership, it was actually quite a crowded mad house, so I was happy to enjoy the low-key little sister location.

I ordered the 1995 Zapato which came with skirt steak, BBQ sauce, avocado, tortilla chips and jalapenos. In other words - a lot of good things that I like, all placed inside of one pressed tortilla. We also ordered chips and guac + salsa.

Overall, it was a very solid lunch. It's located very close to my company's office and the experience is very quick and easy. The food wasn't at the level where I'd put it on the top of any SF tourism lists, but it was enjoyable. I'm sure I will return during future visits to San Francisco.

My coworkers and I were on our way to Garaje when I spotted a small sign for Garajito. I figured they must be related and we decided to try it out instead.

They serve Garaje's signature zapatos, as well as tacos and a couple other items, but the menu isn't quite as extensive. Even so, a steak zapato was exactly what I was in the mood for and I ordered that, as well as chips, guac and salsa to share. While it was prime lunch time, we didn't experience a super long wait for our food and also snagged a table. It's clear they're popular for grab and go, but there are a few seats inside.

The zapato really hit the spot! There was a great ratio of meat to all the other fillings (heavy on the beans but I liked that). It was definitely messy but manageable with some napkins at the ready. The chips and guac were great on the side.

Final verdict? I left stuffed (because I have no self control and finished every last bite) but oh so happy. Garajito definitely satisfied my Mexican food cravings and then some!

Flat burrito aka Zapatos?! ‍ I got the skirt steak asada zapatos. Overall the burrito was really good, but it was way too beanie for me.

This place gets packed during lunch (12PM). Go around 11:30 to avoid the line. They also take a while to make their food.
